  Tasted blind. Tannic structure, this wine is still alive. notes of dark fruit and minerals. The color seems that of a 15yr old bottle. Temperature may not be the best.

  Tasted blind. Wow! My WOTN and we just got started. The definition of a great Barolo. It tastes much younger than what it is. It can fool you. This is definitely at peak. Endless finish. Once again, awesome!

  Tasted blind. This is ready to drink. You can tell it's quality but the tannins have subsided. Maybe a bit too much. There's a lack of grip and acid. The finish is not as long as the others so far.

  Tasted blind. Tastes younger. A bit more red and rustic than the rest of the lineup. Finish is mid-length. Loving Barolos tonight.

• 1997 Paul Jaboulet Aîné Hermitage La Chapelle 93 Points

  France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Hermitage

  This was decanted for a couple of hours and it was silky and velvety by the time we drank it. Nose is fairly complex with dark fruit, blackberry, currant, leather tobacco and a slight bit of clove. On the palate it is focused and composed. Sweet, tart and spicy at the same time. Everyone was impressed. And I could still taste it two minutes later. Lovely bottle.

• 2001 Casanova di Neri Brunello di Montalcino Tenuta Nuova 95 Points

  Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino

  Very dark and with an extremely powerful nose. It filled the room. Black fruit, plums, cocoa, espresso, balsamic, herbs and spices like cardamom and cinnamon on the nose. Full bodied and uberly balanced on the palate. No longer the fruit bomb of 6 years ago. It is complex, layered and refined. This is definitely the beginning for this beautiful wine. It can now be appreciated but it still has quite a bit of time to grow. Amazing wine!
