Introduction

LH whom we've known for some time turns out to have some pretty amazing wines stashed away somewhere in Fotan, and we're very fortunate that every once in awhile he brings a bottle out to dinner with us. Chef David Lai's On Lot 10 is notoriously difficult to book esp on a Saturday night, but luckily Mrs L managed to get us a table. I've long been a fan of David's light-touch interpretation of French country cuisine and emphasis on the best and freshest ingredients. Service was friendly and impeccable as always

  • 1985 Château Margaux 95 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux

    Floral perfume of Margaux strikes again in yet another pleasant encounter with what is now firmly shaping up as one of my clear favourite Bordeaux from the 80's. Dark fruits, currants and minerals were also in the delightful mix of flavours present in this genteel, silky wine. Drinking very nicely -- I've been lucky with these bottles

  • 1970 Pétrus 97 Points

    Wow. I'm generally a fan of 1970 bordeaux and try to buy/taste whatever I come across in the market, which nowadays is precious little... So when LH told us he was bringing this to dinner, I was quite excited. VTS level, the label, capsule and cork were reassuringly aged. There was not much of a bouquet during the first 30 mins of decanting, but quickly thereafter the curtains went up and the show came on with subtle notes of dark fruit, roast meat and violets, crushed dried leaves. Exceptionally pure, clean and fresh, the wine boasted an amazing breadth of flavour and vibrancy of fruit, but to me the relevation was in the beautiful velvety lightness of delivery leaving delicate remnants of currant finish lingering on the palate long after the wine has gone. Most enjoyable, certainly puts most other 1970 bordeaux (maybe with exception of Ducru Beaucaillou) in the shade!

    Another terrific bottle, I am an unabashed fan of this wine. I'm drinking down this case far more quickly than expected, but life's too short and I've got a whole host of other (real) problems to worry about...
