2005 Château Grand Village 88 Points
France, Bordeaux, Bordeaux Supérieur
This estate has been in the Guinaudeau family since 1650. 80% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, manual harvest, 20 months on oak, 40% new. Good fruit, richer and more powerful obviously than the 2004, quite impressive, has the acidity and tannic structure to last 10 years.

This estate has been in the Guinaudeau family since 1650. 80% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, manual harvest, 12 months on oak. Good fruit, not as rich as the 2005 but not really green either, has the acidity and tannic structure to last 8-10 years.

Lovely balance and evolution, reminds me of a more mature version of the 2002, with a lovely minerality on the finish that is very characteristic of Lalfeur but which not all vintages have.

A good but not great Lafleur, the Cabernet Franc was harvested a bit too early. Wonderful tension in the fruit but relatively light, savoury, truffle and porcini, deep flavours.

2000 Château Lafleur 98 Points

Outstanding, deep and serious, very dense, the finest velvet, richer and rounder than usual, coffee and cherries. Very attractive already, everything comes together. Is this the ultimate expression of the terroir of Lafleur? Jacques Guinaudeau is not sure, the 2006 may be even greater but it is still too young; the 2000 had the same energy at this age.

Very elegant and precise, still quite closed, quintessential Lafleur. Liquorice denotes ripe Cabernet Franc, very savoury, stellar fruit, as great as the 2000 but less come-hither. Jacques Guinaudeau actually believes this wine will outclass the 2000 in twenty years' time!

Perfect year, perfect fruit. Fabulous exotique, no discernible oak, notes of liquorice and cedar. Very polished and fragrant, very charming, Lafleur showing its Burgundian side, supremely stylish - very much my style. This may outclass the 2000 - fortunate are those who will be able to follow their respective development in the next 30-40 years...
