Smooth and velvety with moderately heavy tannins. This was the best of the night.A light hint of berries on the nose.

Flight 5 (3 Notes)

  • 2003 Château Mouton Rothschild 95 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac

Tobacco on the nose with gentle fruit and berries. Superior to the 95 and the 89 and drinking beautifully now. Maybe 1 or 2 more years to its absolute peak for me. Nice oak flavors too.

  • 1989 Château Mouton Rothschild 90 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac

A little acidic for me - especially by comparison with the 86 and 03. Maybe its current state but I don't know that it has the ability to smooth out. Time will tell and a retaste in 5 years time will be interesting.

Flight 6 (1 Note)

  • 1989 Château Coutet Barsac 93 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Barsac

Sweet apricot and pear. Deliciously sweet yet not at all cloy'ey. This ones reminds you it is a wine and not some syrup drink with a long balanced finish that lingers. Not thick yet not too thin (a little leaner than I had expected)
