A little tight and unyielding at first, but opens out quickly to show a lovely perfume of rose petals, wood spice, earth and fresh red fruits. A thrilling wine to sit down with and follow over some time; it's not very expressive aromatically at first but aromas quietly build into a lovely perfume of exotic spicy, floral and savoury gamey and earthy elements. The palate presence is remarkable, conveying waves of red fruited, spicy and mature savoury/sous bois elements with intensity and remarkable persistence but at the same time an ethereal sense of lightness. This is drinking superbly right now with tannins fully resolved and an incredibly silken, finessed texture.

Remarkably youthful, not showing any real development or anything else to suggest that it's been in bottle for 12 years. There's a core of fresh cherries, raspberries and plums tinged with bright floral and spicy notes, but it's still very primary and showing a lot of fine grained tannic structure. Very enjoyable with the beef tenderloin, but this really needs time.

It's much more expressive aromatically than it is on the palate where the flavours aren't as complex or bright, but it's very easy to drink with surprisingly gentle, fine grained tannins and bright acids providing a lot of the structure.
Great stuff. This is starting to show some nice development with savoury burnished and waxy elements framing ripe Chenin fruit and honeyed elements. There's plenty of sweetness and richness here, but no shortage of acidity either which keeps it very lively and fresh.
