Introduction
A wet and cold Monday evening was warmed considerably by this excellent tasting hosted by the legend, Christopher Cannan who not is only hugely knowledgable but runs a very tight ship.

bright viognier nose of passionfruit, honeysuckle and lychee. low acid fruit - very smooth texture. rich and opulent. my wife preferred this to the La Doriane 2008 as it was less worked and let the fruit speak.

lots of oak - clear nose of white peach and clove. Extremely rich in the mouth. This is outstanding and very worked but the purity of the fruit shines through.

easy vinification. a lean and easy to understand style. white pepper, modest fruit, a touch of bottle age. disappointing considering the producer and the lovely 2006 gigondas drunk last month.

exuberant - very peppery with considerably more character than the 2006 crozes tasted just before. a completely involving nose that precedes a taste that does not quite live up to the promise of the nose. an excellent result considering the vintage and this would make a delightful inexpensive restaurant wine.

beautiful balance with well judged richness - excellent fruit oak proportion with the classic guigal house style. tobacco, syrah fruit, firm tannic structure. this has the bones to age for a while. a very fine modern impression of the excellent 2007 vintage.

richer and more worked than the regular cuvee, this is better again - rich, direct, intense oak with a gorgeous balance. my wife preferred the regular cuvee for its more direct impression but this is really very fine and will age and develop well.

very fine nose displaying beautiful fruit with masses of new oak - that gives a slightly modern and anonymous impression at this juncture in time. in the mouth, a little underwhelming - quite herbal, mineral and slightly lean. this is quite soft but I have no doubt that this will improve, but for now, excellent but not even close to being amazing.

hugely dense and muscular - very tannic and long - an all together excellent wine. the oak is there but is fully subsumed into the fruit - unlike the la mouline at the moment.this is a deeply flavoured wine with a vise like grip that will always remain with the wine. Multi layered even now, this wine will develop beautifully and will no doubt go places in the next few decades - although in a pretty tannic manner. Close to profound even now and will improve. 96+

dense blackberry fruit with spearmint top notes and luscious oak. very fine palate which is the essence of blackberry liquor. very tannic and will age well. it is displaying some of the dusty character that I have noticed in other 2006 northern rhones.
