ChTR kokous 17.05.2012

The last meeting of ChTR before the summer break. Finally our group is starting to look into some of the nicer wines in Alko in general. The wines were tasted in pairs, except the two stickies, which we had on their own. The first pair from Anne&Kimmo, the next from me, then single bottles from Petri&Oona, Helinä, Sam and Tomas. The two stickies were from Ulla&Pekka

• 2006 Arnaldo-Caprai Montefalco Sagrantino Collepiano 88 Points

  Italy, Umbria, Montefalco, Montefalco Sagrantino

  Popped and poured, tasted double blind. This was quite closed at the moment on the nose, some nice, elegant strawberry on the nose, tons of tannins and elegant red berries on the palate. I was guessing a young Barolo or Barbaresco with this, at least I was in the right country!

• 2009 Heartland Dolcetto/Lagrein 86 Points

  Popped and poured, tasted double blind. This was a very big wine, full-bodied, lots of fruit, lots of spices, quite sweet, not much tannins. Quite ok with food, but was not quite my style of wine.

• 2007 Bodegas Castillo Viejo Tannat CataMayor Grand Tannat 89 Points

  Uruguay, San Jose

  Popped and poured. A rather elegant wine with strawberry and licorice on the nose, good tannins and good fruit with a touch of vanillary oak. A very nice wine!

• 2008 Domaine Borie de Maurel Minervois Belle de Nuit 88 Points

  France, Languedoc Roussillon, Languedoc, Minervois

  Popped and poured. This was a full-bodied wine with lots of aromas and tastes, quite sweet, even a bit jammy, spicey, rasberry, touch of physallis, even a meaty aspect. Quite good now, might even get a mite better with some more time.

• 2007 Bodegas Nueva Valverde Vinos de Madrid Tejoneras Alta Selección 86 Points

  Spain, Madrid, Vinos de Madrid

  Popped and poured, tasted double blind. A rather juicy wine, bordering on grape juice, large, tons of tannins. Perhaps not a wine that I would actively seek, but nice in its own way.

  Popped and poured. Excellent honey and orange peel on the nose, good acidity on the palate, I liked this a lot, a refined sweet wine.

  Popped and poured, tasted double blind. I liked this a lot, perhaps my wine of the night. Lots of cherry, lots of tannins, elegant, a very nice wine which I should get some of for my cellar.

• 2009 René Bouvier Marsannay La Morisotte 88 Points

  France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Marsannay

  Popped and poured, tasted double blind. This had a very strong blackberry, peppery, meaty thing going on. I was completely convinced it was a Northern Rhone Syrah, and was very surprised that it was a Burgundy! A strong wine which definitely needs some time in the cellar. Very different to any other Burgundy I have had before.

• 2004 Ruffino Vin Santo del Chianti Serelle 88 Points

  Popped and poured, last wine of the night. Dried figs and fermenting apple. Quite nice, a bit on the light side, with nice sweetness, but not cloying at all.

A really enjoyable evening with the Taurasi taking first place for me. I was pleased that the Uruguayan wine was recieved well, since I brought it back recently from my trip to the same country.
