Great BYO event at Fausse Piste, with Jesse opening a range of his white and red wines from several vintages.

  • 2006 Karl Lawrence Cabernet Sauvignon 90 Points

    USA, California, Napa Valley

    Pop & pour. This was a bit better than last time I had a bottle. More integration, less disjointed, but still a bit on the boring side at first. Revisited toward the end of the night and was rewarded with a much more lively wine. Flavors of currant and black cherry, mingling with a touch of oak and earth. This really just needs more time, I think.

  • 2007 Basel Cellars Syrah 88 Points

    USA, Washington, Columbia Valley

    Love the nose on this one, all funky and peppery. Nicely structured as well, a solid backbone without being overly tannic. Good fruit (blackberries), followed by a good dose of vanilla oak.

  • 2009 Fausse Piste Grenache Les Garçons 90 Points

    USA, Washington, Columbia Valley

    A one-off project of 46 cases from Fausse Piste. 100% Grenache from Stoneridge Vineyard in the Royal City area, with yields for this wine cropped at 0.75 tons per acre. Great wine, very fruity, showing juicy plum, but with some nice secondary flavors showing through. Earthy, spicy, perhaps some barrel notes...very good stuff!

  • 2009 Fausse Piste Syrah Les Vignes de Marcoux Red Willow Vineyard 89 Points

    USA, Washington, Columbia Valley, Yakima Valley

    This needed more airtime. Somewhat closed and austere when I tried it at first, it started opening up later in the evening. Great structure here, with plum and berry fruit, tobacco and earth. Racy acidity, and slightly-drying tannins.

  • 2009 Fausse Piste Syrah Riverrock Vineyard 92 Points

    Very good stuff! Showing that funk common to vineyards in "The Rocks" area of Walla Walla AVA (Oregon). Sweet blackberry fruit, funk, mineral, solid integration, nice acidity, drinking very well right now, but could use another year or two. I'll sit on mine a bit more.

  • 2008 Cayuse God Only Knows 94 Points

    A special treat from Jesse at Fausse Piste! Wow, this wine was amazing...smooth and silky, rich strawberry fruit, serious funk, crazy minerality. Finishing with some espresso flavors. Very light on the oak, this seemed to gain weight as it got air. Started out rather light but by the end of the glass (with much swirling) it was a beast. I like Christophe's wines more and more as I try them. Sourced from Armada Vineyard, 90% Grenache, 10% God only knows...
