Bright cherry color and clear. Aromas of smoky herbs, cherry, asphalt and a bit of barnyard. Ample smoked chewy cherry, leather, chocolate, coffee and wet cement flavors. Slightly hot at first, which blew off quickly. Silky finish, bright acids and fine tannins. Well balanced, well made wine.

  • 2006 The Four Graces Pinot Noir Reserve Dundee Hills 86 Points

USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Dundee Hills

    (6/2/2012)

Some rust color, suspect has a bit of age. Immediately knew this was a pinot with the typical barnyard & smoked fruit nose. Palate of cherries, allspice, smoked meats, chewy fruit and ample pencil shavings. Soft plush finish, yet fairly hot. Could have guessed this was an '06 OR PN from the heat alone.

Brick and clear appearance. Aromas of sweet candy, floral, cinnamon, bright acid, wet cement minerality. Bright cherry acids, chewy spicey plums and a streak of bacon fat in the mouth. Slightly hot. Good balance with a soft and generous finish. Simple, but pleasing.

  • 2006 Archery Summit Pinot Noir Arcus Estate 84 Points

USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Dundee Hills

    (6/3/2012)

Day 2 revisited (Tasted non-blind), Following the Blind and Double Blind: American Wines, June 2, 2012:

Much of the heavy brett-funk has blown off. Showing stewed fruit, chewy black cherries, game meats and earth. Still leans towards the sweet and simple side with much softer edges yet still hot. The 2006 vintage is my least favorite for OR PN, these were easy to spot due to the heat. 84 points, 6/3/2012
    New Ranking #6

This is the only wine of the bottom 3 re-sampled which improved on day 2 following the blind tasting.

Rusty blackberry in color, with amass of sediment (required filtering). Aromas of hot, spicy licorice, stewed cherries and tangerine zest. Hot on the palate with stewed prunes, raisins, dark acids and smoke.
Paired well with double dark chocolate mini-cupcakes.
