Berry Bros & Rudd, London
Tasted Wednesday, June 13, 2012 by Papies with 811 views
Among our favourite ( if not our outright favourite) wine events hosted at the Ivy league (or Oxbridge we should say) of the wine world BBR in London.
Modelled after the TV game the event comprises of blind tasting of a pair of wines and then two of BBR fine wine experts take turns to pitch what they think the wines are. At the end of their pitch we were asked to vote on which one we thought was right. Such a Fun event.
The Event was hosted by Rebecca Lamont and the Speakers were the ever amazing Anne Mchale BBR's Wine Education Manager and Demetri Walters BBR Fine wine specialist.
Dimitri: Argued for cava, said that although it felt like champagne the lack of minerality was a give away this was no champagne
Anne: Argued for champagne.
Most of the guests went with Dimitri. We wrongly went with Anne!
Dimitri: Went for Sancere and Meursault
Anne: Argued for New Zeland Sauv Blanc and Australian Chardonnay
Actually Anne managed to pursuade most people including Nicol, Not Andreas Though.
Dimitri: Argued for South France Rose & Oregon Pinot
Anne: Argued for Sancerre Rose & Burgundy GC
We both went with Anne on the basis of the burgundy as we had no clue on the rose. Crowd was mixed.
Dimitri: Greece and Greece
Anne: Gavi di Gavi and Primitivo
We both went with Demetri. crowd was mixed.
Dimitri: Argued for Rhone Syrah and Australia Shiraz
Anne: Argued for Cabernet Sauvignon
Pretty much everybody went for Demetri as no matter how much spin Anne tried to add it was impossible to pursuade these two spice bombs were Cab Sauv
Demetri: Argued for Pomerol and St Emilion
Anne: Argued for Pauillac
We went with Anne.
Flight included a Sake Hoyo "Genji" which really confused people
Demetri: Argued for Sherry, dry and sweet
Anne: Argued for Sake (initially white port) and Maderira
Everybody went for Anne.
This is the second time we attend this event and just like last time this was an amazing evening, fun, educating in a light hearted way and a good way for one to test his/hers tasting capacity. We would recommend this blindly. See you there next year!
NV Bele Casel Asolo Prosecco Superiore 87 Points
Italy, Veneto, Asolo Prosecco Superiore
Quite aromatic on the nose, almost reminded us of moscato d'asti at parts. Good crispness, acidity, medium sweet and very refreshing. Pretty good fro £12. 87
