Introduction

Steve and his son stopped by for dinner. Poor Amy had a nasty dental appt, so it was just four males for dinner. I made ribeyes with wild mushrooms and onion, garlic spinach, and corn on the cob.

1979 Château Latour Grand Vin 93 Points

France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac

Opened for slow-o at 1pm. Fill into neck. Decanted at 7pm, gone by 9pm. Black currant and cedar mulch nose with hints of pencil lead and licorice. Mellow, full, and warm in the mouth. Long thick finish of forest floor, licorice and black fruit. Classic Latour. This wine is probably at its peak now.

Flight 2 (1 Note)

1979 Château Léoville Las Cases 94 Points

France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Saint-Julien

Decanted at 9pm when the Latour ran out. Big smokey black fruit nose with hints of tobacco, licorice, and tar. More mature than the Latour, but more complex to me. A hint of oxidation, but still plenty of pure, sweet fruit. Drink up, but enjoy!
