Flight 1 - Amusée bouche (1 Note)

Roe-geggamoja and smoked salmon rolls.

  • NV Jacquart Champagne Brut Mosaïque Rosé 89 Points

    France, Champagne

    Kept for 2 years.
    Non-blind. Had immediately.
    Copper color.
    Rounded, bready aromas with hints of grapefruit.
    Good structure and fine acids. Less of a rosé Champagne, more of a hefty BdN in style.
    Perfect starter for the evening.

Flight 2 - Course and main course (3 Notes)

Red beat carpaccio.
Home made rein deer and chanterelle ravioli.

  • 2009 Concannon Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon Conservancy 87 Points

    USA, California, San Francisco Bay, Livermore Valley

    Non-blind. Had immediately.
    Good, fruity nose with small jam.
    On the palate, it is a slightly jammy CS with some distinction. Much liked by all. Has interesting components.
    Excellent QPR.

  • 2008 Domaine Léon Barral Faugères Jadis 86 Points

    France, Languedoc Roussillon, Languedoc, Faugères

    Non-Blind. Had immediately.
    Big nose dominated by cloves and other (Swedish) Christmas spice. Odd but it works.
    The palate is clean, almost without personality. Good concentration, fruit, acids and fine tannin. But somehow, I'm not impressed.
    From time to time, good wines fail to do *it* for me. This is such a wine.

  • 1985 Château Bel-Air Lagrave 91 Points

    Non-Blind. 1 hr decant and 2 Mollydooker shakes.
    Brownish hue.
    Mature, earthy, Bordeaux with fantastic sumi ink notes and a slight hint of Brett.
    This is what mature Bordeaux is all about. It still has a good grip, fair concentration, lively fruit, balancing acids, some complexity, fair length etc.
    Fantastic presentation by a 27 year old Cru Bourgeois. Still has some fine years left to go.

Flight 3 - Dessert (1 Note)

Panacotta with American blue berries and Swedish raspberries.

  • 2005 Château Suduiraut 96 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes

    Non-blind. Decanted for 2 hrs.
    Golden.
    Mjuffingly huge nose with fine botrytis and saffron swirling with honey, dried apricots and some bitter almonds.
    Coming around on the palate, but still very young. High sugar level beautifully balanced by dancing acids. Rich, concentrated, deep and wide wine in a beautiful geometry. Superbly delicious today, will become a monster of a great wine.
    This wine will really be something down the road. 4 btls to hide deep in the cellar. I think at least 15 years.

Closing

Dinner ended with a glass of Japanese whiskey from the host's collection. Yummy! It was a very fine evening.
