Binny's welcomes Bo Barrett

Bo Barrett was in town with the local distriutor and Binny's put on a nice tasting of the Montelena line up, lead by Bo. Considering the wines being poured, I thought the cost was quite reasonable at $50. Bo was engaging and very gracious with his time after the tasting, waiting until everyone had a chance to say hello and have a picture taken or a bottle signed.

  Aromas of banana and tropical fruit, coconut and apple, honeysuckle, florals and vanilla. Flavors of vanilla, toast and apple, with nice underlying acidity and a long finish.

  Deep ruby color. Notes of cherry, raspberry, red fruit and white pepper. Medium-bodied, with cherry, red fruit and pepper tones. Elegant; love this wine. 91-92 pts.

• 2009 Chateau Montelena Cabernet Sauvignon Calistoga

  Deep crimson color, but stripped. Could have been water in the glass there was so little aromatically. Subtle red fruit tones on the palate. Unlike every Montelena Napa Cab I've had. I, and a handful of others, felt this was flawed. No rating, and hopefully not representative.
