Blind tasting. Bright red fruit aromas with plenty of spice. Lots of structure today, mostly obscuring the fruit, with acidity in particular dominant from middle to end, but good concentration also quite evident...at least to me. This was my 3rd place wine tonight, but #11 for the group.
Blind tasting. Ripe fruit aromas, clearly from 2003, with a slightly candied character. Slightly lacking acidity, giving a short, simpler finish. Best young. Group liked the forward nature of this wine more than I did, ranked #8 tonight for me, #4 for the group.

Blind tasting. Moderate red color. All red fruit with a slightly earthy nose. More pale fruit on palate with lots of structure, clearly showing as 2002. Needs lots of time, which was why this group didn't much appreciate this wine tonight, ranking it last place.

Blind tasting. One of the few wines i found tough to identify as 2002 vss. 2003, which I would consider a positive comment. Strawberry aromas, then red cherry and strawberry on palate with an elegant character and modest structure. Best to drink young.

Blind tasting. Dark fruit aromas with an ultra ripe character. Lots of oak, very forward, very modern styled. This worked well for many in the group, where it ranked #3 tonight, but my 10th favorite wine.

Blind tasting. wow, what a surprise "ringer" in this 2002/2003Burgundy tasting. I certainly thought it Burgundy, actually from Vosne-Romanee to be more specific! Lots of red fruit with modest spice. great structure with great acidity and minerality from middle to finish and hints of emerging earthiness.
Blind tasting. Red fruit with lots of spice. Wine is already is good balance, just slightly lacking in concentration. Group ranked this #7 tonight, I thought it a little better.
Blind tasting. Clearly a 2003 from the first whiff, but a very well made 2003. Dark fruit with nutmeg and clove aromas. Nice balance today but also lots of density. #5 wine tonight for the group, and I liked this more than the group average.
Blind tasting. Ripe fruit on nose, a bit fatter than I'd prefer, clearly showing itself as 2003. Black fruit with espresso and dark chocolate with modest spice. Lots of concentration and power. Challenging to assess when and where this will emerge from its youthful exuberance.

Blind tasting. My contribution to tonight's tasting, thinking it will play to the group's general preference for riper, large-scaled wine that aren't as acid-driven. So naturally this was the group's #1 WOTN, even if near the bottom of my list. I was able to identify this as the Dugat-Py in the blind lineup because his wines always make me ask if the wine is Burgundy or northern Rhone. Lush fruit aromas with a cherry cola hint. Ripe black fruit on palate with lots of density, seemingly short on acidity.

Blind tasting. Black fruit aromas with some earthy hints. Tannin, meaty and ripe, this was one of the only wines where i correctly identified the commune from which it came. A very successful 2003.
