Introduction

Notes on wines we came across while sailing in Croatia. More valuable as a means to add new wines (with their photos of course) to Cellartracker rather than the quality of our tasting notes

Flight 1 (15 Notes)

Interesting is the distinction between Kvalitetno ( in a way quality wine or Premier Cru) and Vrhunsko (Peak or Grand Cru)

Be careful though as Grand Cru means in most cases 15% alcohol and lots of barrique.

    This was a pretty decent effort and a very enjoyable wine. We don't have a full TN but we do remember liking this quite a bit so we would recommend it. 90-91

    Had quite a few bottles of this over a couple of days. Well made, dependable and with character. Medium bodied, light fruity, well round ( almost made in a "pleasing" style ). The M&S socks of Croatian white wine. 90

  • 2009 Stina Plavac Mali Kvalitetno Vino, Barrique 87 Points

    Talk about picking a wine because of its label... The wine word on everybody's lips in Brac Island is Stina.
    This is their Kvalitetno Wine or in a way "premier" cru ( there is is also their vrhunsko or Grand Cru).
    Modern forward, lots of fruit and lots of wood at this stage, well round but more beautiful to look at than actually drink it at the stage. Maybe time will help. We definitely preferred the Vrhunsko version. 87

  • 2009 Stina Plavac Mali Vrhunsko Vino, Majstor Barrique 90 Points

    The grand cru ( vrhunsko vino ) expression of Stina. A good improvement from the kvalitetno (i guess that would be the "premier") version and with a whopping 15% alcohol which we have to say it is not imposing. Spicy notes, good fruit, fruit forward and well round. Balanced with more texture and although the wood is well present at this stage a few more years in bottle would help improve tho. 90 at the moment

    Speak about picking a bottle because of its label too, but a beautiful one to say the least.

  • 2009 Plančić Ager Reserva

    Not a formal TN here but we do remember it as a strong full on wine with a lot of density and texture from a lot of oak. Did not thrill us and probably it was in the mod to high 80s if we were to score it.

    Light, aromatic, playful and easy. perfect for a lazy summer afternoon overlooking the adriatic sea. 85-87

    Not a full note here. Fruity, fresh, easy and quite enjoyable. Spot on for summer time. mid to high 80s

    Found this a bit lacking although it came with a lot of promise. Medium at best and lacking in depth and character. Not sure why what to make of this. 85-7 at best

    Proposed by the waiter as something different vs Grgic Posip. Not really of that level we have to say and it lacked substance and character. Easy drinking , no harsh notes, sumer wine.

    Corked, probably badly kept too but even through all the flaws the barrique was ever so evident, in a bad way.

    Showing some colour. dense wine, lush and long with a lot of presence and round glycerin feel to it. Interesting but a touch on the sweetish side. 89
