Wow... a great way to start an evening. Loaded with crunchy, chalky, flinty minerals, just the way I like it. Some nice apple and pear fruit with a pleasingly bitter fruit skin note. Long, lingering and deep. Lovely stuff.
A bit closed on the nose, but the palate provides a clean, citric and mineral dusted experience. Initially tight, but this took to air like a fish to water, slowly unwinding and providing increasing pleasure. Lean, svelt and a touch of herbs (mint?).

If this is how good the premier cru is from Vogüé, I shudder to think how good the grand crus are. Spectacular wine that provides fragrant florals, black cherry and iron notes. The structure is evident on the palate but not enough to render this undrinkable, just enough to let you know this has a long future ahead of it. A haunting wine that clings to the palate with cheery, earth and rose petal notes. Lip smacking good.
This is why we age Riesling... so much going on, so many flavors, yet still quite alive for a a 37 year old wine. The nose offered honey, orange zest and dried tropical fruits; one would think this would be sweeter than it actually was from the nose, but the sweetness has mostly melted away, leaving behind a mostly dry, mineral bath of a wine. Sleek and racy. I might guess this would have been a bit slightly better 10 years ago (with a bit more fruit?), but this is holding on nicely on cruise control.
Lovely mature fruit aromas with a hint of pine, spice, fire pit and minerals. Elegant and fine... full of energy and verve for it's age. There's a lot going on here and I would love to have this with braised meats on a winter night.
A fabulous aged Bordeaux that I could easily mistake for a First Growth. Complexity, power and refinement. Dried flowers, wet earth, minerals and a hint of old, sweet cedar. This continued to improve a bit with air, becoming a bit more "integrated" and seamless. Savory finish and lingers nicely. Wine of the night.
It's been about 13 years since I last had this wine and not much has changed. It is still of wonderfully, painfully young wine with so much potential and upside. The fruit is rock solid, the leather and earth notes add complexity, the structure is bountiful. A slight stalky streak that adds complexity, but this is definitely not "green". I would keep these stashed in the cellar for another decade, at least.

Not sure if this was just over the hill, or a mistreated bottle. The condition seemed sound from a visual inspection, but this was badly maderized.
