Introduction
xhoser was back in town on business and billhike hosted the group for a casual dinner. Thanks to M/M billhike and M/M trekkerdan for a terrific dinner and to all for a really nice lineup of wines and another fun evening. In attendance were:

2009 Albert Mann Riesling Cuvée Albert 88 Points
France, Alsace
Pale color with notes of petrol, slate, peach and apple blossoms. Mineral and wet stone flavors with subtle apple and stone fruit undertones. Mann's wines are almost always lovely, and this was no exception, though I'd have liked just a touch more acid here. 88+ pts.

Pale color with aromas of mineral, stone, peach and white fruit. Medium-bodied, with stone and orchard fruit flavors.

2010 Copain Chardonnay Tous Ensemble 90 Points

Pale straw yellow color. Apple, white fruit and mineral notes. Soft on entry, filling out across the palate. Light and elegant, with apple, orchard fruit and subtle vanilla notes on the palate. Finishes well. 90-91 pts.

2002 Philippe Prié Champagne Tradition Brut 92 Points
France, Champagne
Equal parts Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Notes of chalk, limestone, citrus and white flowers. Fine bead, with mineral, citrus and limestone flavors. Developed a rich nutty quality in the bouquet and on the palate by the end of the evening. Lovely.

2001 Damilano Barolo 89 Points
Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo
Decanted briefly off its sediment. Ruby color. Notes of red berries, rose petals and a very subtle tar note too, though there is an underlying raisiny quality which I find distracting. Red berries on the palate; slightly austere on the finish. By the end of the evening a nice cherry note emerged and the raisiny note had almost entirely disappeared.

1995 Casanova di Neri Brunello di Montalcino Tenuta Nuova 92 Points

Pale crimson color. Aromas of red berrries, licorice and plum with a terrific meaty/roasted game overtone. Nicely integrated and very well-balanced with red berries and plum flavors and a lengthy finish. The meaty notes disappeared by the end of the evening, replaced with bright red fruit and sour berry qualities.

2004 Domaine Bois de Boursan Châteauneuf-du-Pape 92 Points

Decanted by our host. Deep crimson red color with aromas of florals, red berries, garrigue and barnyard. Medium-bodied, with red berry, garrigue and spice flavors. Will hold for a long while, but with a bit of air this is drinking very nicely. Held up over the entire evening, adding a nice roasted herb quality. Lovely. 92-93 pts.

2000 Lamborghini (La Fiorita) Umbria Campoleone 91 Points

Bright red color. Licorice, red berry and floral notes. Medium-bodied, with chalky tannin and flavors of red fruit, currants and spice. White pepper and vanilla nuances as it opens further in the glass. Good medium+ finish.

2000 Cayuse Syrah Coccinelle Vineyard 91 Points

Opaque crimson color. Still a somewhat large-scaled, brawny wine. Aromas of blue and black fruit dominate, though there is a subtle bacon fat note too. Structured, with some tannin to integrate yet; blue and black fruit flavors, vanilla too. Lengthy finish.

2004 Antinori Tignanello 94 Points

Deep crimson color. Perfumed red fruit and florals jump from the glass, hint of licorice too. Notes of rose petals, violets, cherry and roasted game emerge later on. Balanced, with flavors of red fruit and spice, turning to cherry, black currants and vanilla. Maintains balance across the palate and through the long finish. Excellent.

2009 Epoch Estate Wines Authenticity 89 Points

Deep color. Initial impression is of alcohol- this is a bit hot, then white pepper, blackberry, red fruit and plum. Firm tannins with flavors of vanilla, red fruit, spices and pepper. Needs time- I'd like to see what this is like in a few years.

80% Petite Verdot and 20% Cabernet Franc. From 375ml. Aromas of vanilla, clay and red fruit. Firm tannins with some nice fruit underneath. Dark berry and currant flavors with vanilla and spice notes on the finish. 89+ pts.

2005 Outpost Grenache

Deep ruby red color. Cherry, red currant and spice notes dominate the bouquet; shows a bit of heat though too. The palate follows the bouquet, with red fruit, spice, cherry and pepper flavors. Nice.

NV Paul Goerg Champagne Premier Cru Brut Rosé 91 Points

Salmon pink color. Aromas of berry, melon and caramel corn. Nice bead, with lovely berry and melon flavors on the palate. Good underlying acidity with a nice finish.
