Great balance of acidity and fruit. CT says that this is in its sweet spot--I agree. CT says this only has a few years left--I disagree. Green apple, creamy citrus, some dark spice and a smoky quality that brings some of the Pinot Noir flavors into the mix. I ALMOST get red cherry. This is much more than a curiosity; this is an extraordinarily well-made wine.
CT says that this is just entering its drinking window--I agree. Obviously from a cooler site with dark cherry fruit, a little camphor, cinnamon red hots and a nice herbal quality.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru
CT says that this is nowhere near its drink window--I TOTALLY agree. Hints at future greatness but right now just closed. Some tart cherry, obvious tannin, a wonderful whiff of dark sweet cherry trying unsuccessfully to arrive. Clove and other dark spices also present. In a decade this could be magical. Unfair to score this wine at this point.
USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Eola - Amity Hills
CT says that this is nearing the end of its drinking window--I TOTALLY disagree. It's in a sweet spot now but I think it has years remaining. Classic Cristom funk with dark cherry, creosote, wild herb, clove and a slightly sweet nutmeg/mace quality. Acidity is still nice.
