Introduction
What could I do when 13 cases of wine arrived from Gargiste in my fall shipment? Invite a dozen friends over, cook some food and open 20 wines we'd never previously tasted. Most were $15-25 per bottle.
This is approximately in my order of preference but after 20 wines and 5 hours my "preference" got somewhat clouded. I tried a few of these again the next night.

Bright fruit aromas to start. Black cherry, black pepper in a classically Northern Rhone style. Elegant and balanced. 63% Syrah, 30% Mouvedre, 7% Grenache.

Slightly floral start with dried fruit. Black fruit flavors with modest spice. Good balance and charm. Aromatics improved with more air time. Incredible bargain at $10.

Carmenere-based blend from Venato. It came across as very much like Cabernet Franc to me tonight. Great meaty nose, dark fruit flavors. Needs another 4+ years. I liked this better than did most other people.

Syrah blend from Portugal. Good minerality, fragrant nose, OK fruit on 1st night. 2nd night the fruit was much nicer and wine more complex and seemed almost Cote-Rotie-esque. Hold for 5 years.

Classic young Bordeaux flavors, spice and character to start, good flavors, just short and simple.
Don't see lots of upside, I would suggest drinking by 2008 or 2010 at latest.

Loire Cab Franc. Massive wine in need of many years in the cellar. Fruit well hidden behind mineral and tannic structure. I left this uncorked for 24 hours, and it was much more balanced 2nd night.
