Introduction

Wonderful Dom Perignon dinner sponsored by Knightsbridge for the store's anniversary. A few of us brought a few bottles of red wine given the menu. These aren't the actual flights, just split between the great Champagne and the bottles we brought.

Flight 1 - Champagne on the Train Ride to Highwood (1 Note)

Flight 2 - Dom Perignon (5 Notes)

Flight 3 - Red Wine (4 Notes)

  • 1988 Ceci Clos Vougeot 91 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos Vougeot Grand Cru

Great aromatic start, with floral elements, moderately mature black fruit, good mushroom hints. Palate was similar but slightly less intense. Moderate length came across as slightly more mature than the aromas might have implied.

  • 1997 Domaine Anne Gros Richebourg 91 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Richebourg Grand Cru

Very ripe red cherry and boysenberry aromas starting to show age. Moderate baking spice in background. Nuanced from start though middle, just not very long. At its peak now.

  • 1999 François Parent Echezeaux 89 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Echezeaux Grand Cru

Good black fruit aromas with moderate sweet baking spice. Less forthcoming on palate with fruit somewhat obscured today behind prominent structure. Better after 2010.

  • 2001 Domaine Charvin Châteauneuf-du-Pape 92 Points

    France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape

Tough wine to assess with alluring lusj, ripe black fruit with great sweet spice. Palate was more subdued, seemingly shut down, not coming across as characteristically Chateauneuf. We were confused, thinking perhaps this just needs some more time (?).
