France, Champagne
Magnum. Fresh and energetic. Lean fruit with lots of acidity, minerality. Moderately long finish.

2003 Hyde De Villaine Chardonnay Special Reserve Single Clone Selection Hyde Vineyard 92 Points

From magnum. Much like how it tasted last year, perhaps showing even a bit more rich and lush, with some hints of butterscotch near the finish.

Magnum. Incredibly floral start, great white fruit and new oak spice. Lush forward fruit flavors as well. At its peak now.

Floral start with tropical fruit and stone fruit. Similarly big fruit on palate with a very fat texture, but somewhat simpler, perhaps shut down in middle.

1981 Château Coutet Cuvée Madame 95 Points

Served with foie gras. Aromas of candied lemon peel and candied orange peel, slightly floral as well. Still robust and fresh fruit on palate, helped by excellent level of acidity. Long and well textured.

Great botrytis aromas with a honeyed, apricot start. Good fruit but a little one dimensional with lower acidity that both shortens the finish and made it less complementary to the foie gras course.

Magnum. This is the Ponsot/Chezeaux, not the Leclerc/Chezeaux Griottes bottling. Aromas of black cherry, underbrush, leather, meaty spice and sauteed mushroom. Palate has great balance of fruit, earth, acidity and softened tannins. Long and spicy, earthy finish. Great now, this should easily hold at this level to at least 2020.

Magnum, Darn! I'm not sure if this was another heat damaged bottle that made the barnyard character take over completely, or if it was open and decanted so long the "normal" amount of Brett just bloomed too much, or some combination of the two. Not terrible, but basically drinking tonight as an 88 point wine.

Lush and close to jammy blackberry, plum aromas with some meaty spice. Same very fat and ripe dense fruit on palate. I'd give this plenty more time in the cellar to shed some baby fat.

Magnum. sensational aromas of black cherry, licorice, rose hints. Somewhat less forthcoming on the palate, particularly to start, this slowly started to emerge after a couple of hours. Better after 2020.

Magnum. Subtle red cherry, with also delicate floral, spice and earth notes in background. This wine is close to its peak today, coming across as fairly accessible already in its youth.
