Introduction

Didn't get to spend a whole lot of time thinking about the wines as we were sitting around the fire pit and the kids were swarming around. The validicava and coudoulet were my favorites.

  • 2009 Stag's Leap Wine Cellars Chardonnay Karia

    USA, California, Napa Valley

    We served this a little too warm unfortunately so the fruit was a little more tropical. Some cream and a touch of oak. I like this wine especially when it is chilled and the fruit is more citrusy and the wine is more crisp.

  • 2001 Merry Edwards Pinot Noir Windsor Gardens Vineyard

    USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley

    Soft cherry fruits and a touch of vanilla. Not bad but not memorable. Drink em if you got em!

  • 2003 Valdicava Brunello di Montalcino

    Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino

    Enjoyed this. Tart black cherry, earthy notes, some spice. Still plenty of structure. Ann liked it too this time which surprised me due to the earthy notes. This bottle showed the best of the three we have had over the last 4 years.

  • 2009 Château de Beaucastel Côtes du Rhône Coudoulet de Beaucastel

    France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Côtes du Rhône

    Consistent with last bottle. I love the elegance, complexity and depth of this wine especially considering its price in the low 20's.

  • 2009 Carlisle Zinfandel Carlisle Vineyard

    USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley

    Considering where my palet is moving and after following an old Pinot, the Coudoulet de Beaucastel and the Validicava brunello, this didn't show well for me. Just too much fruit and alcohol. It wasn't really a fair setting to be honest. For me the Carlisle zins need to be enjoyed on their own or with similar styled wined. Ann and Karen loved it however.
