Introduction

Cheese plate to start with artichoke dip, NY strip on grill with gratin potatoes and a "fresh from the garden" salad. Ice cream sandwich for desert. Hit the spot.

  • 2005 Kongsgaard Chardonnay 92 Points

    USA, California, Napa Valley

    a fair amount of wood on the nose, a little rum raisin ice cream. Honey notes on the nose and a little tangy on the finish/citrus. Showing well at this point.

  • 2006 Peter Michael Chardonnay Cuvée Indigene 93 Points

    USA, California, Sonoma County, Knights Valley

    We drank this in conjunction with a 2005 Kongsgaard chard and the two wines couldn't be more different in style. We tasted blind. At first everyone thought it was a Rhone white. Pretty viscous in the glass. The nose was crisper than the Kongsgaard and not with as much in terms of wood notes. Strange that the drinking window suggests that this wine is past its prime. Everyone seemed to think it was in a good place.

  • 2005 Aubert Pinot Noir UV Vineyard 94 Points

    USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast

    Despite being wrapped in tin foil, this bottle was nailed as Aubert. A fair amount of spice on the nose. The amazing thing about this wine was not only how good it is, but how well it hides its 15.8% alc. I got some Kirsch liquor on the nose. Also some wood on the finish, but not excessive. This wine didn't require food and was enjoyable on its own. A great effort.

  • 2005 Ramey Syrah Rodgers Creek Vineyard 92 Points

    USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast

    Again, tasted blind and tricked quite a few of us. There was a sense there might be some Grenache on the nose.14.5% alc was lower than expected. Very fruit forward which made it CA in my mind, but others who claim to be going thru a "French Phase" thought it was Rhone.

  • 2007 Andrew Will Sorella 92 Points

    USA, Washington, Columbia Valley, Horse Heaven Hills

    This was the final wine of the evening. At first blush it was thought to be a cab and then maybe an Aussie Shiraz. 3 hour decant. Very fruit forward and with sugar so that is why some of us thought it might be Shiraz. 72% Cab, 15% Cab Franc, 10% Merlot, 3% Petit Verdot. The Cab Franc was dominant on the finish with spice.
