Introduction

Met up with some friends for dinner at Telegraph Wine Bar. They have a very nice wine program with an eclectic selection of oddities, large formats, and aged bottles. Our group shared a couple nice bottles and ordered a bunch of food to share. On a whole, the food was only above average with some forgettable dishes.

  • 2011 Arianna Occhipinti Sicilia SP68 Bianco 91 Points

    Italy, Sicily, Sicilia

    With extended skin contact, this is an orange wine. Has a golden color to it with asian pear, white floral notes, rubber and burnt honey tones. The palate was fresh and vibrant blending a waxy fruit component with a darker blackberry or maybe tar note. The finish was packed with acidity and subtle underbrush notes that were very nice.

  • NV Foreau Domaine du Clos Naudin Vouvray Brut 90 Points

    France, Loire Valley, Touraine, Vouvray

    Enjoyed this sparking vouvray quite a bit. Nice vanilla and white floral notes lie over top chalky minerals and earthy notes. Had great energy on the palate and good complexity.

  • 2010 Jean Foillard Morgon Côte du Py 91 Points

    France, Burgundy, Beaujolais, Morgon

    Pop and pour. The nose is distinctly Foillard with a nice blend of elegant cherry, sous bois and beef broth. The palate was structured and dark - no surprise there - showing off a beautiful cherry profile blended nicely with roasted mushrooms, underbrush and spices. Drinking nicely, but will age for a while.

  • 2010 Domaine Servin Chablis 1er Cru Vaillons 89 Points

    France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru

    Precise, almost painful levels of lemon-based acidity greet you on the nose. The lush lemon notes mingle with crushed rock, seawater and herbs. The palate had an interesting composition with lemons and seawater kicking things off. It did seem, however, to have a banana peel, green edge to it that I didn't get in the Montee de Tonnere.

  • 2002 Domaine Huet Vouvray Brut Réserve 93 Points

    France, Loire Valley, Touraine, Vouvray

    Had one of these the other nights and couldn't resist opening another. Love the exotic notes on the palate - part truffle, part pear, part crushed chalk. Had what I can best describe as a "breezy" palate with layered earth, mineral, seashell, pear and apple tones. Love this stuff!
