Introduction

Laura brought the wines, I tasted double blind.

Flight 1 (2 Notes)

  • 2008 Ugo Lequio Barbaresco Gallina 88 Points

    Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barbaresco

    Decanted, tasted double blind. This was a very pale red, almost salmon pink. The nose was very elegant, with sweet cherry and a hint of smoke. The palate followed with refined tastes and elegant tannins, cherry, cranberry, quite acidic. The finish was pleasantly long with a bit of umami. I was dead sure this was a South American Pinot Noir, I guess the colour threw me off completely. A very nice wine!

  • 2008 Santa Julia Magna 85 Points

    Argentina, Mendoza, Valle de Uco

    Decanted, tasted double blind. A fairly dark granite red. The nose was fairly full on, thick, cola, blackberries, a hint of bacon. The palate was also very fruity, with blackberries and some tannins, a bit of sweetness. Easy to spot as a South American big fruity wine. But nice in its own way.

Closing

The wines tonight were very tastey, I especially enjoyed the Barbaresco, which was a fun wine, since it threw me off completely. I love tasting double blind!
