Introduction

Keith came over to watch the No Reservations: Burgundy episode and we opened a couple bottles to enjoy along with the episode. Keith also picked up some food from Savoy that was a nice accompaniment.

  • 2010 Domaine Henri Boillot Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Aux Vergelesses Blanc 91 Points

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru

    Lots of sulphur at first on the nose finally gave way to a dense nose of lemon, flint, spice, truffle and hazelnut. The palate was incredibly zippy with TONS of acid underneath a richly fruited core. Had great depth and pitch and I was very impressed by this Savigny-les-Beaune. Nice alternative to more expensive options from Puligny and Meursault.

  • 2010 Domaine Servin Chablis 1er Cru Montée de Tonnerre 90 Points

    France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru

    Compared to the other bottle I had, this started off fatter, more honeyed making me nervous of premox. Luckily, with some air the wine pivoted to be more cool, breezy, and fresh. Again, this featured saltwater, lemon, herbs and spices. Great stuff.

  • 2001 Domaine Pavelot (Jean-Marc et Hugues) Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Aux Guettes

    This bottle started off nicely with an earthy core, red fruit and spices. After a couple of hours open, the wine definitely showed deep oxidative notes. Not going to score it because of how it fell a part.

  • 2006 Simon Bize Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Aux Vergelesses 89 Points

    Interesting wine that combined a richly fruited core with subtle earth and spice notes. I'm getting similar characteristics from a lot of 2006s right now actually. The fruit was really the dominant player at this point blotting out the more muted spice and earth notes. Giving this some extra age might help the fruit diminish a bit, which might, in theory, allow some of those sexy secondary and tertiary notes to emerge. We'll see.
