Introduction

Vertical Tasting of 9 vintages of Bonneau du Martray CC. Wines not decanted and I just took quick notes.

  • 1998 Bonneau du Martray Corton-Charlemagne

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru

    Light hazelnut, good weight on the mid palate. Not one fruit in particular but harmonious orchard fruits with a whiff of lemon. Very long. Enjoyable.

  • 2002 Bonneau du Martray Corton-Charlemagne

    Thought this was very tight and pretty much closed. Some apple notes both on the nose/palate with a touch of wood. Not my favorite.

  • 2001 Bonneau du Martray Corton-Charlemagne

    More acidity than the '98 and also more focused. Mineral. Pear and lemon. Nutty. Very good !

  • 2005 Bonneau du Martray Corton-Charlemagne

    Lovely nose, remind me of Leflaive. Smoky wood, light butter. Green fruit. Apple and lemon. Powerful but aerial at the same time with a great acidity.
    Freaking good wine.

    Definitely not my favorite of the vertical: a little flat. Aromatics are fine but to me this lacks energy and acidity.

  • 2007 Bonneau du Martray Corton-Charlemagne

    Right off the bat, there's freshness and elegance coming out of the nose. Lime and butter. A touch of fresh grass. Wood is really well used and discreet while present. Green apple.
    A little simple right now but should blossom into a great wine.

  • 2008 Bonneau du Martray Corton-Charlemagne

    Nose was quite different from all the previous wines: much more exotic (but in a restrained way). Nice chalk, smoke and lime notes. Powerful but with great acidity and energy. Probably my favorite of this vertical.

    Tight nose with discreet wood and mineral. Palate is too fat for my taste. Vintage is showing too much.

    Similar nose than the 2005. Lovely precision and focus. Rocks, mineral. Additional lemon, lime and melon. Powerful.
