Flight 1 (4 Notes)

  • 2009 Scarecrow Monsieur Étain 94 Points

    USA, California, Napa Valley, Rutherford

    12+ hour decant.

Still consistent with previous notes. Ripe black fruits, very fruit forward, just shy of overripe I think, I get a hint of port now. Still those creamy almost buttery notes to me too. Tannins still quite present, and grip.

  • 2009 Myriad Cellars Petit Verdot 90 Points

    USA, California, Napa Valley, Rutherford

    12+ hour decant

Big wine. Dont think I've ever had a pure Petit Verdot, it's pretty nice, but I can see why it's used as more of a blending grape. Definitely has some rough edges.

Florals, black fruits, coffee, graphite, dark chocolate. The decant helped immensely; I can't imagine a pop 'n pour on this...must be kind of brutal.

It's quite good though and an interesting experience with the 100% verdot...more years in the bottle will probably smooth out what the decant can't...

Keep it in the cellar for now or give it a long (8+ hour) decant.

  • 2010 Kosta Browne Pinot Noir Santa Lucia Highlands 91 Points

USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Lucia Highlands

    8+ hour decant.

The first bottle I had of this was either off, or just bottle shocked between bottling and shipping; I think I drank it way too early and something just wasnt right...

This bottle was much different, and much better. Hint of butter, black cherries, hint of pinot funk, and the acidity is definitely present.

Give this some more time, or give it a longer decant.

  • 2009 Myriad Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Dr. Crane Vineyard 92 Points

USA, California, Napa Valley, St. Helena

    8+ hour decant.

There's still something unique about Dr. Crane to me, but this has a lighter 'Crane' terroir taste. Very nice, but not up to the level of the '08 I don't think.

This is quite good, but pretty straightforward...not a lot of complexity going on, but the flavors are clean and well expressed.

Pretty grippy tannins, and should continue to improve in the cellar.
