Grand Burgundy Tasting

A Burgundy tasting at the American Club in Hong Kong organised by Watson's Wine.

The real standout was the 2010 Jean-Paul Benoit Droin Chablis Les Clos which for the price is excellent value.

The 2008 Drouhin-Laroze Bonnes Mares was amazing and my WOTN.

  Maybe it was a bad bottle but I am afraid that it had hardly any nose and was harsh and rough on the palate. This is a great producer so I will try again.

  A nose of violets, blackberries, truffles, earth and smoke. Thick rich deep complex mouth with a nice length. This is quality Grand Cru and still very young.

The 2006 Domaine des Lambrays Clos des Lambrays was good but slightly thin and the 2008 Francois Feuillet Clos de la Roche came through much better on the second tasting

The 2009 Domaine Vincent & Sophie Morey Santenay 1er Cru Beaurepaire was great and incredible value

  A very heavy rich nose of blueberries, blackberries, oak and vanilla. A smooth palate and quiet sweet. It is very nice at first but could you keep liking all that sweetness and fruit?

Thanks to Donal for dragging me out to this and organising the tickets. Quite a wide range of wines, I would recommend the 2009 Domaine Vincent & Sophie Morey Santenay 1er Cru Beaurepaire for value and the WOTN was the 2008 Drouhin-Laroze Bonnes Mares.
