Flight 1 - Aperitif (2 Notes)

  • 2007 Kumeu River Chardonnay Maté's Vineyard 91 Points

    New Zealand, North Island, Auckland, Kumeu

    Light golden yellow. It has a perfume nose with ripe pear, vanilla and lightly smoke. Very balance mouthfeel, soft but seamless midpalate. Ripe pear, vanilla and hints of spice supported by nice acidity backbone. It is a very good cool climate Chardonnay and taste like a white Burgundy too.

  • 1998 Krug Champagne Vintage Brut 92 Points

    France, Champagne

    Light golden yellow with lots of fine beads. Starting to age but it is nice & approachable now. Very expressive nose with green apple, yeast & biscuity and some toastiness. Powerful palate, nice bread dough flavour with plenty of citrus fruits and vibrant acidity. Long aftertaste. The palate has soften since I last tasted it but it is drinking so well now

Flight 2 - The 3 La la la (3 Notes)

  • 2004 E. Guigal Côte-Rôtie La Mouline 95 Points

    France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Côte-Rôtie

    Dark ruby with beautiful glossy hue and this has the highest percentage of Viognier (typically 9-12%).
    Very expressive and perfume nose, lots of blue fruits and blackberry with lifted floral notes. A touch of sweetness on entry follow by a complex palate with blueberry and violet. Soft yet structured, like an iron fist in a velvet glove. Seamless midpalate with a very long finish.
    Young but it is the most approcahable among the 3 La la la's tasted tonight.

    France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Côte-Rôtie

    Deep ruby with glossy hue, slightly darker than La Mouline, has typicaly 5-8% Viognier. Powerful nose with very ripe fruits, blackberry, mocha and oak. Fresh and elegant on the palate, the fruits here are darker and polished. Firmer tannins with a long long finish.

    The last of the 3 La la la's tasted tonight as it is supposed the fullest among 3.
    A straight shiraz, with deep garnet and it has the darkest colour. Most powerful nose among the 3, with plenty of dark fruits and blackberry. The oak influence is most prominent here with some leathery notes as well. As the time goes by the nise has evolved to become more opened.
    A very serious wine, plenty of structure with black cherry, earthy notes and hints of leather. Firm tannins and long lingering finish.

Flight 3 - King of Shiraz - Chris Ringland (1 Note)

    Australia, South Australia, Barossa

    Produce from a plot of dry grown old vines planted in 1910 and transformed by Chris Ringland into one of the cult wines in the world, with typically 40-46 months barrel aging in new French oak.
    Dark inky black and almost inpenetrable, yet glossy and beatiful colour.
    The nose has masses of ripe fruits with pruney character, along with dark plum and spice. It has been decanted for 2 hours and yet it has not fully open. The palate is till very tight with rich ripe fruits, quite smooth but a little hot on the finish.
    After another 2 more hours of decanting, it has evolved to become a very big & powerful wine. It has the highest alcohol content I ever tasted for a wine at 17.7% but it was still pretty much well contain. The nose is more open now, beside masses of dark ripe fruits, it is almost port like with expresso character and dominant by oak. A definite full bodied Shiraz, showing ripe fruits, dark plum, blackberry, dark chocolate, spice and oak. It has a persistent palate extend to the aftertaste that last very long. Fine and subtle tannins, well managed.
    This is truly a beast and the biggest and fullest wine I ever had. While a glass or two is an eye opener for myself, this is the wine I cannot take it alone. This is also one of the perfect wine for a famous wine critic, but I decided mine would be something more balance and complex. Nevertheless I enjoy the opportunity to taste such a rare wine and I admire Chris Ringland for bringing his wine to a new level that no one can achieve (though I still unsure if it is toward a correct direction but guess noboby would be able to tell)
