Flight 1 (1 Note)

  • 2011 Château Haut-Bailly Bordeaux Rosé

    France, Bordeaux, Bordeaux Rosé

Aromas of rich ripe strawberries on the nose, along with red cherries, oak, crushed stones, and a hint of musty sulfur. Fairly tart on the palate displaying raspberries and cranberries, along with some underlying oak and a touch of heat showing through. Medium acidity providing a drying backbone. Medium length finish ending on notes of raspberries and red currants. Nice and straight forward, but far from exciting. OK.

Flight 2 (2 Notes)

  • 2007 Château Haut-Bailly La Parde de Haut Bailly

    France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan

Very open and expressive on the nose showing rich red fruits, tons of pencil shavings, prune, and a fair bit of green leafy aromas. tart red cherries comes through strong on the palate, along with bitter red currants, graphite, oak, and more green leaf. Medium acidity coupled with light chalky tannins. Medium length finish ending with notes of red currants, graphite, and oak. Quite light in texture and flavor in the mouth, and lacks concentration on the nose, especially compared to the '09 which was tasted along side. Good.

  • 2009 Château Haut-Bailly La Parde de Haut Bailly

    France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan

Dense and concentrated on the nose, showing rich dark fruits, cassis, sweet blackberries, a bit of mint and graphite, and a touch of cumin. The power carries through to the palate, displaying black cherries, lead pencil, sweet blueberries, some menthol, and a strong kick of oak. Nice balance considering how heavy this wine is on the palate. Medium+ acidity with plenty of sandy tannins. Medium+ length finish ending on notes of black cherries, lead pencil and oak. There's great value here, and is a much nicer wine than the '07 that was tasted along side. Very good.

  • 2006 Château Haut-Bailly

    France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan

Quite elegant and reserved on the nose showing tons of lead pencil, along with dark plums, red cherries, sour raspberries, and some dark dried fruits. Lots more lead pencil on the palate, as well as tart red cherries, black currants, black plums, black pepper, mint, and some oak. Lots of acidity paired with mouth numbing tannins. Long finish ending on notes of cassis, lead pencil, and black pepper. Seems to be in a bit of an awkward phase at the moment, as the nose was quite tight but that palate showed more richness and depth. All the underlying components are here, just needs at least a few years for a better assessment. Very good.
