Introduction
Always a wonderful -- and popular -- event, this year's Fall Pick-Up Party featured an Indian Summer day, great food (the aged Gouda and oven-fired flatbread were amazing), and enough Turley wines to bring a smile even to the most travel-weary person (me, after two solid weeks of travel). Kudos to Larry, Malani and staff for another great day.
2010 Turley Cabernet Sauvignon The Label 89 Points

Larry Turley poured this one personally, sheepishly recanting his "No Cabs, Never!" catchphrase of years past and explaining that this fairly recently purchased St. Helena acreage planted to Cab. Sauv. was too good to pass up. A very nice rendition of "classic Cab," in a style Napa produced before the dawn of the ratings game (Parker, et al). Nice dusty cherry and plum notes throughout the bouquet and palate, but with an almost Zin-like quality that pervades the experience. Nice balance and medium body. A drink-soon wine that provided a perfect kick-off to our tasting.

2010 Turley Zinfandel Pesenti Vineyard 91 Points

Beautiful balance of juicy berries and acidity to make this one of the more food-friendly offerings by Turley. Aromas are still a bit muted, but my sense is that this will come alive in about a year. Always one of our favorites, the Pesenti Vineyard bottling (which I believe comes from head-pruned vines) is a revelation of what happens when good terroir meets excellent winemaking.

2010 Turley Zinfandel Dusi Vineyard 88 Points

Tasty, but less complex and in a lighter style than previous Dusi's we've had. Nice brambly Zin notes throughout, but with a short finish.

2010 Turley Zinfandel Ueberroth Vineyard 94 Points

Is this a Zin or a Rhone-styled wine? This could pass for a Southern Rhone with great concentration, dark fruits (black plum, blackberries, overripe raspberries) and an enticing aroma that made this wine our favorite of the tasting. Deep ruby color and enchanting legs. The complete package, Turley style.

2005 Turley Zinfandel Hayne Vineyard 90 Points

Surprisingly light on its feet for a Hayne and would be a very good accompaniment with food, which is always a challenge with the Hayne. Impressions of strawberries and currents, with nice forest-floor-after-a-rainstorm notes.

2006 Turley Petite Syrah Hayne Vineyard

Still a baby, and probably not ready for serious drinking for at least five more years. Tannins are front and center, but behind them are some nice red fruits. Rating withheld because it's still disjointed at this stage. But this could blossom into a beauty with some time in the cellar.
