Floral nose with some honey and toasty oak. Very dry citrus palate. Quite austere - like an Australian riesling. Palate doesn't quite deliver on the aromatics. Probably needs another six months - or decanting - to show at its best.
Nose a little tighter than the Lapola but some honied notes comes through with a little exposure to air. Dense palate that really opens out. Very stony and mineral with some citrus and a little salinity. Oak is well integrated. Lovely lingering freshness. Good now but I think it will be even better next year. Impressive stuff. 2013+
Some white flowers on the nose. Full-bodied and lacks the freshness of the Lapola and AS Sortes. Palate a little shapeless but there's some citrus and oyster shell flavours in there. Ok.
Green tinge to the wine. Sweet, woody nose. Interesting palate with some nutty flavour and also a herbal quality. It's a big almost flabby wine - and the wood is quite dominant. More interesting than the regular 'barrica' version it was served alongside.
Some tropical fruit on the nose - mango, I think. Rich and full-bodied palate with honey and almond. Mouthwatering. But lacks the complexity of the 2008. A little young maybe?
Nose is peppery and briary. Lovely juicy palate! Savoury with a refreshing sour tinge at the end. The pepper comes through on the finish too. Great weight and balance. Very good.
Smells quite jammy and alcoholic. Very oaky! Peppery too. And lacks freshness. Good fruit though - may come good with some time in bottle. Quite a dark fruit profile for Mencia. Also a little yeasty. 2014+
Full-bodied. Forest fruit - and lots of it. Lacks balance - there's a big whack of in-your-face acidity. Might have been better in its youth but it's falling apart now.
Some leather on the nose. A little spicy - but also cherry and some more savoury flavours. Quite drying and needs food but it's also held up better than the Dominio de Tares it was served alongside.

2010 Bodegas Rafael Palacios Val do Bibei As Sortes
