France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Medium yellow. Lower pitched aromatics, more immediately nutty and less fruity. Ripe and lush with good back end acidity and some minerality. Nice complexity, not overblown.
Light ruby. Bright berry fruit (some carbonic maceration?) and licorice. Herbs, light fruit and zippy acidity with some smokiness. Good for current drinking.
Medium red. Darker profile nose, lots of tobacco. Very mixed up palate-at the same time pruny yet thin, tobacco leaf more than fruit, and high acidity gives a tingly finish. Off bottle? In any case, quite a mess at the moment.
Slightly lighter than the Racines. Completely different aromatic profile with fragrant red fruit. Light weight. Lovely snappy red raspberry, supple, terrific acidity and lowish tannin. Some back end garrigue. Much more pleasing than its stablemate. This really shows the fresh acidity and lift of the vintage.

Deeper color than either Gigondas. Complex nose, not at all fruit driven. Real lushness and depth balanced by savory minerals and soil. At this point, you can feel more than taste the fruit. Sneaky core of acidity that is completely buffered. With everything in balance like this, I imagine this VT evolving gracefully for several decades. Outstanding stuff and the highlight of the range.

Medium yellow. Tropical fruit and citrus. Medium weight, exotic fruit and a touch of glue, dry finish. Not for me.
