Introduction

Stefania Wine was in town on business and wanted to get together with some of the locals. Who are we to question such wisdom? Six of us gathered at Urbano for another great night of excellent company, good food and lovely wines. Our theme for the evening was Italian wines. Here are the results:

Flight 1 - White Flight (1 Note)

A lovely Italian white from the northern part of Italy to start things off.

    Yellow color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of lime, apricot, camphor and wet stones. Flavors of lime, apricot, peach and minerals. Medium to bright acidity, light to medium body. Drink or hold.

Flight 2 - Italian Reds (4 Notes)

I nice selection of Italian Reds, all with at least 11 years of age.

    Dark garnet to purple color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose is a little tight showing aromas of roses, pepper and mixed dark fruits. Rich flavors of berries, cherries and plums. Medium to bright acidity, medium to firm tannins, full bodied. Drink now with air or continue to hold.

Our honored guest brought one of his wines for us sample. One of our group members brought a special bottle from his offsite storage to share.

  • 1996 Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande

    Tasted non blind. Allowed to slow-O about four hours before serving.

    Dark garnet to purple color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of pepper, berries, cherries and plums. Flavors of berries, plums and raspberries. Medium to bright acidity, medium to firm tannins, medium to full bodied. Slightly clipped finish and not as full and expressive on the nose and palate as expected so no rating. Hold.
