<Nanea w/ RJB, MPB Ali, Matt and Shannon> Probably the finest SBlanc I've experienced to date. Citrus and minerals on the nose. Nice, well balanced fruit and a crisp long finish.
<Nanea with RJB MPB Ali Matt and Shannon> Wow! So far this evening is showcasing the finest I have sampled from 2 varietals. '02 Lail SBlanc and now this stunning Chardonnay. This had wonderful aromatics of tropical fruit and citrus. This full bodied white was highlighted by a rich fruit attack on the mid palate that was led by juicy ripe peaches. Simply great stuff.
<Nanea with RJB MPB Ali Matt and Shannon> Cherries, cinnamon and faint floral notes on the nose. This nose would probably confuse me if tasted blind. Wonderful concentration of cherry and plums. My final bottle and more in line with my previous experiences. GREAT
<Nanea with RJB MPB Ali Matt and Shannon> This wine never had a chance. It followed 3 stellar showings -- '02 Lail SB, Marcassin Chard and Pinot. It simply could not rise to the challenge. It seemed austere, unapproachable and lacked the concentration and complexity that the others showed. Nevertheless, on its own I'm sure it would be recognized as a good wine highlighted by the finish that exhibited some reluctant sweet fruit.
Finished a stellar evening of wine with the oft discussed '01 Montelena. None of us could find any taint, for whatever that is worth. Seemed like a good, but young CAB featuring spicy dark fruit. Tight, with heavy tannins and not nearly enough age or air for me to enjoy fully.
