Introduction

Anne brought the wines, I tasted double blind.

Flight 1 (2 Notes)

  • 2010 La Jasse Castel Coteaux du Languedoc Montpeyroux La Pimpanela 86 Points

    France, Languedoc Roussillon, Languedoc, Coteaux du Languedoc Montpeyroux

    Decanted, tasted double blind. A rather dark red with a violet edge. The nose is pretty distinct and reminds me of another Languedoc from Minervois that I've had, lot's of dark berries with a distinct physallis aroma to it, a tiny hint of bacony smoke, rather powerful. The palate is also strong, some tannins, lots of fruit, but not sweet. Clearly a young wine that could do with a few years in the cellar. It was easy for me to guess where it was from.

  • 2011 Gérard Bertrand Cabernet Sauvignon Vin de Pays d'Oc Naturae 84 Points

    France, Languedoc Roussillon, Vin de Pays d'Oc

    Decanted, tasted double blind. Almost black with a violet edge. Lots of blackberry and cassis on the nose. The palate was slightly sweet, some tannins, a tiny hint of banana, quite spicey, with a finish of sweet cranberry. Hmm, an innocuous wine, harmless and quaffable, but nothing very exciting.

Closing

A couple of wines from my neck of the woods! The Jasse Castel was easy to spot, but the Bertrand was very international and commercial.
