    Spain, Andalucía, Manzanilla de Sanlúcar de Barrameda

    Excellent sherry - fresh stock - refined, flor and a lovely suggestion of salt. Really well balanced and a hit with white anchovies with orange and sloe sorbet and Serrano ham with coffee mayonnaise.

  • 2011 Domaine Giraud Châteauneuf-du-Pape Les Gallimardes Roussanne 92 Points

    France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape

    Wonderful CNdP that has brilliant varietal integrity - opulence, density with lightness and a great sense of poise. Even at this early stage the wine shows great complexity but even more than that a sense of class that meant it was not humbled by a great and aged Batard Montrachet that was opened directly afterwards. Drunk with Lanoustines and cauliflower panna cotta with a lobster nage.

  • 1999 Etienne Sauzet Bâtard-Montrachet 95 Points

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru

    First rate grand cru that showed absolutely no hint of pre-oxidation. A class act all the way, this wine was the epitome of mineralty, hazelnuts and near profound mealy complexity. While the wine certainly has authority on the palate, what really impresses is its sense of decorum - nothing is out of place- all of the aspects of this wine are in beautiful proportion.

  • 1996 Domaine Armand Rousseau Père et Fils Clos de la Roche 89 Points

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos de la Roche Grand Cru

    Slightly lean wine that has finesse and satisfies on its clarity and minerality. Very refined and certainly a fine wine but I hesitated to call it outstanding as for my palate I was hoping for more complexity on nose and palate.

  • 1992 M. Chapoutier Ermitage Le Pavillon 92 Points

    Outstanding wine from a dreadful vintage. Certainly mature but with no sense of it moving into decline anytime soon. Great selection has resulted in a lighter styled Hermitage of beautiful finesse. Beautiful floral notes compliment the smokey and leathery syrah fruit. Not as complex as great vintages but it certainly was a much finer and involving wine that the 1995 Clape Cornas consumed the day before.

  • 2009 Château Coutet Barsac 91 Points

    A treat to drink this young Barsac. The 2009s are certainly fun to drink at this early stage. Very sweet and rich - it was a little too rich for the dessert of poached rhubarb and goats yoghurt sorbert - not that anyone appeared to be concerned...
