• 2007 Jacques-Frédéric Mugnier Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Clos de la Maréchale 91 Points

  France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru

  The Clos de la Maréchale has a surface of 9 hectares, 76 ares. It is the largest monopole in the Cote d’Or. Tasted from magnum; On the nose blackberries and dark-red fruit. On the palate very approachable, tannins are ripe and fine and the texture is very pleasing all well integrated and nicely balanced. Some pure red cherries and more red dark fruit. Overall medium complexity and very elegant. The finish has a soft silkiness which seemed more Chambolle than NSG. Great wine but lacks a bit of complexity …

• 2007 Arnaud Ente Volnay 1er Cru Santenots-Du-Milieu

  France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru

  From vines planted in 1992. Tasted from magnum; Medium ruby color, On the palate lighter bodied some light red fruit aroma’s. with relatively simple cherry fruit which it makes clumsy next to the Nuits. Unbalanced and I think there’s no room for improvement. I don’t know what went wrong here, although the A. Ente White Burgundy’s are amazing especially 2010 !!

• 2007 Domaine Méo-Camuzet Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Chaumes 91 Points

  Situated at the foot of la Tâche and les Malconsorts on the other side of the road in a slightly deeper clay soil. Tasted from magnum; There is much finesse and elegance in this wine, very typical the touch of Vosne spiciness with ripe, dark fruits. Medium fullness and charm here in a wine which has great balance. Medium finish and great for early tasting. A very good les Chaumes !

• 2007 Lucie & Auguste Lignier Clos de la Roche 93 Points

  France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos de la Roche Grand Cru

  Tasted from magnum; Dark cherry color. On the nose, full of red and black cherry fruit and earth. On the palate, it delivered all that and more with spice, and floral notes. This has sufficient concentration to perfectly buffer the tannin and formed a really pure, complex mouth feel. The finish was very concentrated and long, with some meaty tones. No doubt this will need more years in the bottle in order to develop, but it is so delicious now!

• 2007 Pierre Damoy Chambertin-Clos de Bèze 92 Points

  Damoy is the largest single owner of Chambertin-Clos de Beze, possessing over half of the appellation. Younger vines and less perfect parcels are sold to negoce. Tasted from magnum; Good nose of ripe red, dark fruit. First attack on the palate is light, soft, sweet and juicy, midpalate is more powerful and complex with earth, dark fruit and well integrated tannins. Ending with a fairly medium smooth finish. Overall a good wine but you expect more from a Clos de Beze.

• 2007 Domaine Château De La Tour Clos Vougeot 93 Points

  France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos Vougeot Grand Cru

  Chateau de La Tour owns the largest parcel in the Clos Vougeot (some 7 hectares) and the oldest wines. Tasted from magnum; On the nose herbs and spices, dark cherry and kirsch. On the palate rich for a 2007, lovely dark, red fruit flavours and earthy notes. Superb structure, great balance, beautiful roundness, brilliant length. This wine has the balance and structure to age, a really good Clos Vougeot.

Conclusion so far, 2007 a vintage with relatively low levels of acidity, on the palate neither aggressive nor green, but very elegant and supple. The vintage is very often described as light, these generous and joyful wines are made for drinking more than collecting.
