  Nice earthy cherries on the nose, but that was just a tease. The palate was tart and thin and the finish was was only medium in length.

  This one was a step up in the night's lineup. Nice earthy, musty notes on the nose, still pretty acidic but more body to balance it than previous wines.

  Mild, but pleasing aromas of ripe cherries, strawberries in the mouth, reminiscent of new world pinot, with a decent finish.

  France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Beaune 1er Cru

  Beautiful cherries on the nose, oak, young with new world character, rich warm strawberries in the mouth. Compared to previous wines for the night, this was a big step up in body and richness.

  France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton Grand Cru

  Compared to previous wines, this one was dark garnet with hits of brick at the edges. A big, mouthfilling wine, rich with notes of candied cherries and cinnamon. Still young with lots of life left.

  Appearance of slight brick at the edge of dark garnet. Classic aged Burgundy nose of dusty earth and cherries. Rich, deep and elegant in the mouth and a long finish. Excellent wine! Best of the night for me so far.

  A gorgeous offering, rich and elegant, perfectly balanced, notes of spicy cherries and earth, good grip. Drinking well now, but this one will get much better with time!

  Earthy, musty nose with a bit of barnyard, round and smooth in the mouth, this one seems to have more age on it than would be expected from it's 2005 vintage. Drinking really well now.

• 2002 Camus Pere & Fils Mazoyères-Chambertin 96 Points

  A "cellar raid" additional wine for the night that, for me, was the clear winner! Georgeous nose of barnyard, earth, and cherries, with layers of complexity and depth. Rich and mouthfilling, classic and balanced, long lingering finish. Just a joy to drink!

Through all the flights, the Jadot nose was consistently more earthy and complex, while the Latour seemed to lean towards more of a cleaner, almost new-world nose. In the earlier flights, the Jadots were the clear winners over the Latours. But as the quality ramped up and we got into the grand crus and better premier crus, they became more similar in quality. Still very different in character, but more difficult to choose which was better.
