    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Saint-Julien

    Some fine sediment in my pour. Nice nose of baked raspberry and mint. Light bodied without much fruit left, just a bit of blackberry to go along with graphite and leather. Others liked it more than I did. (my 6th, group's 3rd)

  • 1982 Matanzas Creek Winery Cabernet Sauvignon 91 Points

    Nice, youthful, black raspberry nose. Light to medium bodied with medium acidity. Juicy blackberry fruit with a bit of tobacco. Great balance and a smooth and silky texture. Excellent. (my 2nd, group's 2nd)

  • 1982 Robert Mondavi Winery Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 89 Points

    Reticent nose, a bit of mint. Mix of tart and sweet raspberry fruit with eucalyptus. Quite nice, many thought Bordeaux. (my 3rd, group's 6th)

  • 1982 Château La Lagune 88 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Haut-Médoc

    Nice nose of cinnamon, cherry and a touch of brett. I thought the brett added character, others found it overwhelmed and others didn't detect it at all! Cinnamon, dark cherry and a touch of tobacco on the palate. Still holding onto a bit of tannin. (my 5th, group's 5th)

  • 1982 Chateau Montelena Cabernet Sauvignon The Montelena Estate 89 Points

    USA, California, Napa Valley

    Youthful color and nose, with pretty cassis and a hint of mint. Baked plum and anise with chalky tannins. Surprisingly youthful and tannic, from this bottle I'd say this is at least five years from peak, maybe ten or more. (my 4th, group's 1st)

    France, Bordeaux, Graves

    Lovely nose of dried cherries and flowers. Best nose of the night. Light to medium bodied with low to medium acidity. Bright raspberry fruit, bramble and dried flowers. Wonderfully balanced and a joy to sip. Who would have thought this humble Graves would show head and shoulders above the rest of this lineup? (my 1st, group's 4th)
