Introduction
While the Acker auction didn't happen, there was still a BYO at Domaine. Because, well, why not? I always like these kinds of excuses to drink amazing wine.

Yea, this was a tasting that most certainly didn't suck. There were about 30 people there and bottles being opened left and right. Some bottles I would've loved to have spent more time with, but at these types of tastings that just won't happen. Still, there were some unforgettable wines and a whole lot of great juice on the whole.
1949 Pommery Champagne Brut Millésimé
France, Champagne
nose: balanced with nice tones of butterscotch, roasted nuts, marzipan and toffee tones. This was fading on the nose, but what is still there is nice.
taste: medium bodied with medium acidity that is a bit out of balance. A bit faint and wilting on the palate with tones of butterscotch, roasted nuts and toffee.
overall: this was still alive, but wasn't what it once was. Still, a real treat to be able to get this kind of experience

2010 Domaine Dublère Corton-Charlemagne 91 Points

nose: fat, but tight nose, with tones of crisco oils, white fruits, lemon curds and spice tones. Good grand cru depth with good underlying materials
taste: full bodied with medium/high acidity. Balanced with good depth but the structure is a bit large right now. There are very good tones of crisco oils, lemon curds, and white fruits.
overall: this is quite young. Certainly needs time to come into itself. What is there is really good, but it will take some time to fully come together if premox doesn't get it first. This was had from a magnum.

1996 Henriot Champagne Brut Millésimé 91 Points

nose: starting to become more mature with balanced tones of brioche, roasted nuts, white fruits, floral tones with underlying tones of minerals. Very good depth and class to it.
taste: medium/full bodied with medium/high acidity. Well balanced with very good depth and classy tones of roasted nuts, white fruits, floral tones and minerals as well.
overall: This was a nice and classy bottle. Good depth on both the nose and palate. This is starting to show some maturity, but it will certainly go a ways longer.

2005 Gravner Breg Anfora 92 Points

nose: very complex and fragrant nose filled with tones of allspice, berries, red florals, roasted herbs and bits of almonds as well. There is an uplifting quality to the nose with very good depth as well.
taste: medium/full bodied with tart medium+ acidity. The acidity is noticeable along with really good tones of allspice, navel oranges, berries, and roasted herbs.
overall: this was one of the more interesting wines I've had. Shows the idiosyncrasy of Gravner. There was a nebbiolo-like quality to the wine and I could see where Galloni said that this is what nebbiolo in a white wine would be like.

1995 Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé Musigny Cuvée Vieilles Vignes 94 Points

nose: gorgeous and flowing nose filled with tones of red fruits, violets, fresh picked roses, perfumes, cherries and all sorts of spice tones. All sorts of depth with a real sense of class to it as well.
taste: very silky and elegant medium body with medium/high acidity that is still showing in a big way. The structure on the palate is a bit on the imposing side, but there are extremely pretty tones of red fruits, violets, roses, red cherries and spices with some wild flowers as well.
overall: this was from magnum. I got to this a bit later and the nose was showing extremely well. The structure on the palate was pretty big and this bottle did need some more age. Still, it was showing off some of what it can do and there was a lot of beauty in it.

2008 Domaine Bruno Clair Chambertin-Clos de Bèze 93 Points

nose: there is a real tightness to the nose, but behind that are robust and aromatic tones of red fruits, red cherries, earth tones, and brown spices. Very good depth that shows it's grand cru class.
taste: full bodied with chewy tannins and medium/high acidity. This has very big structure right now and poking through that structure are deep tones of red fruits, red cherries, earth tones and some currants.
overall: this is obviously very young right now. Still, there is a lot to like about this and it should take a while to unwind.

nose: beautiful and searching nose filled with tones of vosne spices, red fruits, strawberries, violets and all sorts of wild flowers. Lots of depth and style to this.
taste: lovely medium body with medium/high acidity. Extremely balanced with silky tones of red fruits, violets, vosne spices, and wild flowers. The structure doesn't come off as foreboding as the vogue.
overall: this was a beautifully elegant wine. Showing off real class and elegance with a more feminine side to it.

1997 Domaine Méo-Camuzet Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Aux Brûlées 92 Points

nose: there is a meaty and savory quality to this with tones of dark red fruits, earth, brown spices and some floral tones as well.
taste: very well balanced medium body with medium acidity. Elegant with tones of dark red fruits, some meaty tones, brown spices and a touch of dark florals.
overall: this has some real class to it. Very elegant with good balance on both the nose and palate. There is a more savory quality than I expected, but it was very attractive nonetheless

2004 Giuseppe E Figlio Mascarello Barolo Monprivato 92 Points

nose: very tight, but with revealing tones of red fruits, fresh picked berries, roasted herbs, roses, perfumes and a touch of tar. Good depth with elegance hiding beneath the tightness right now.
taste: Medium bodied with Medium/high acidity and very chewy tannins. The structure is really big, but there are really pretty tones of red fruits, roasted herbs, roses, and bits of tar on the back end.
overall: This is obviously very young right now. There is an extremely pretty wine lurking underneath the imposing structure. The tannins are on the bigger side and this isn't completely shut up shop right now.

1975 Paul Jaboulet Aîné Hermitage La Chapelle 95 Points

nose: absolutely stunning from the get go with flowing tones of black pepper, black fruits, some leather and horsey tones, bacon fat, violets and a touch of bleu cheese. Lots of depth and complexity that does beguile the senses a bit.
taste: medium/full bodied with medium acidity and some nice supporting tannins. Very well balanced with silky and layered tones of black pepper, bacon fat, black fruits, leather and a bit of bleu cheese.
overall: this was a real stunner. This was from magnum and was flying out of the gates. The tones would jump in the glass and the palate had a real refinement to it as well. This was a real treat.

nose: there is a real savory quality to the nose, but with an underlying of oak as well in the form of intensity. Very well balanced with tones of dark red fruits, smoke, black fruits and bacon fat.
taste: full bodied with really good tannins still. Medium acidity with dark tones of smoke, black fruits, spice tones, bacon fat, and dark red fruits.
overall: I decanted this for about two hours ahead of time. It was showing on the younger side and could use more time.

nose: somewhat open with youthful tones of dark red fruits, spices, earth tones and dark red cherries. There is grand cru class on the nose.
taste: medium/full bodied with good chewy tannins and medium/high acidity. Youthful with tones of dark red cherries, spices, and earth tones.
overall: This was somewhat open. It really could use more time, but it wasn't all that harsh to drink at this time.

Nose: nice and balanced tones of violets, dark red fruits, spice tones and a healthy dose of bacon fat. This nose doesn't seem to be fully popping as previous bottles.
Taste: full bodied with good tannins and medium acidity. The tones of dark red fruits, bacon fat, and spices feel slightly disjointed. It's a bit off putting, but there was good depth to it.
Overall: this bottle wasn't doing it for me as previous bottles have. The palate was slightly disjointed, and that was bothersome. I've had better bottles, but this one wasn't flawed.

Nose: succulent an savory nose with really balanced tones of black fruits, black pepper, bacon fat, and dark red fruits. Very nice depth to it and very aromatic.
Taste: full bodied with very good tannins and medium+ acidity. Balanced and classy with tones of black fruits, bacon fat, dark red fruits, and some smoke tones as well.
Overall: a very classy cote rotie. This was drinking fairly well, but it's not going anywhere anytime soon.

1998 Robert Mondavi Winery Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve 90 Points

Nose: nice and balanced nose with tones of mint, dark red cherries, cassis and some cedar tones too. This is lacking some depth, but is open and expressive.
Taste: medium/full bodied with medium acidity and resolved tannins. It's well balanced with tones of mint, dark red fruits, and cassis tones.
Overall: this is a classy and mature Cali cab. It's a classic mondavi reserve and shows off great balance with nice depth.

nose: there is a nice dose of funk right off the bat with real good tones of black fruits, black cherries and some dark red fruits as well with a touch of spices.
taste: Full bodied with medium acidity and nice supporting tannins. Balanced with meaty and dark tones of black currants, some tar, black fruits and dark red fruits.
overall: I don't get that many chances at drinking south african wine. I liked this and liked the meatier aspect to it.

2010 Maison Albert Bichot Echezeaux Domaine du Clos Frantin 91 Points

nose: this was pretty tight for the most part. Though it isn't too surprising, there were still really good tones of red fruits, cherries, dark berries, some spice tones and a touch of oak.
taste: medium/full bodied with medium+ acidity and chewy tannins. The structure is fairly imposing right now, but there are balanced tones of red fruits, cherries, spice tones and some oak underneath.
overall: not surprising that it shows this much youth. Let it sleep for 10 years at least. There was some oak that I noticed, but it is in the range where it should integrate.

nose: Very aromatic and open knit nose filled with tones of cassis, fruitcake, red fruits, cedar, berries and some pencil lead. Very nice depth and showing off it's maturity perfectly as there is a refinement to it as well.
taste: Nicely balanced medium body with medium acidity and some tannins still. The tannins are nice and supportive with tones of cassis, fruitcake, red fruits, pencil lead and some dark red berries as well.
overall: This was showing very well yet again. It's been a few years since I've had this, but it's still going strong.

2002 Chartron et Trébuchet Bâtard-Montrachet 93 Points

nose: Deep and expansive with tones of pain grille, pears, white fruits, lemon curd and some red apples as well. Very much a grand cru just by the depth, and it is wound tight slightly too.
taste: Full bodied with extremely good balance and medium+ acidity. There is still some baby fat to this that could use some trimming with rich and balanced tones of pain grille, pears, white fruits, red apples and some toast as well.
overall: Too bad premox is in existence as I'd like to know where this could be in about 5 years. It has a bigger stature to it and it could use some trimming of fat. But, it does come off as extremely good right now.

1991 Diamond Creek Cabernet Sauvignon Gravelly Meadow 91 Points

nose: Very balanced and elegant nose with tones of cedar, cassis, red fruits, cherries and some dark red fruits as well. This has some nice depth to it with a touch of class as well.
taste: Medium/full bodied with nice supporting tannins and medium acidity. Balanced with very good tones of cedar, cassis, red fruits and some cherry tones as well.
overall: This is a nice, classy, and mature cab. There isn't the headiness that I sometimes get from Diamond Creek, but the balance showed through.

nose: There is real intensity and power on the nose right now. It is far from a bashful and shows larger tones of dark red fruits, some oak, dark red cherries, black pepper and various spice tones.
taste: Full bodied with some very chewy and gripping tannins along with medium+ acidity. There is balance behind it though, with real intensity at the same time, and tones of dark red fruits, black pepper, and dark red cherries.
overall: This is very young. I don't think it saw much air either and showed off some real raw power to it. It needs a good 5-8 to fully show itself, though I'm sure one could drink it now if they were so inclined.

nose: Lovely and mature nose with tones of brioche, roasted nuts, honeycomb, marzipan and some green apples with a touch of white fruits as well. Extremely good depth with some real class on the nose as well.
taste: Full bodied with good medium acidity. Balanced with very good depth and classy tones of brioche, roasted nuts, green apples, white fruits and some honeycomb tones as well.
overall: A real treat and extremely enjoyable. I wish the situation was different so that I could've spent more time with it, but that's how it goes.
