Very young, quite fruit-forward with dark cherry dominating over the spice and herbal elements. I know others who love this wine, but I still see the fruit and herbal elements not getting along quite yet.
Lot 9.097. Absolutely a treat now with very approachable tannins, though has stuffing to last and last and last. Silky medium body with red and black fruit, tar, pressed flowers, light savory qualities, chalky tannin, and excellent acidity. I cannot wait to break into the Riservas (lots 10+). But wait I must.
Daaaaaaaaamn. Very pronounced nose of stone, tropical, citrus, and everyfruit. Sweet dough and brioche buried in bitter orange and stone fruit with oxidative notes. This is at once laser-focused and all-over-the-place fun. Yup, a contradiction, but it is that good. Balanced with a loooong finish. Decidedly not in the "light and subtle" school of champagne.
Holy mother of everything that is good. How can a dessert wine be so incredibly intense and yet retain an elegant detachment and femininity. Very rich floral nose with the backing of tropical fruit, apricot, brown sugar. And honey. The kind that bees would be proud of. Would make monuments to. And we to them! Somehow feels very light bodied, though that obviously belies its actual weight. Sweet and spicy, but sweetness perfectly balanced by the acidity. Finish lasts about three days. Maybe four.
After the 99 Darting eiswein, this was quite a contrast. Crazy, untamed, like Muppet Animal with a new set of drums. Liquid honey, mulling spices, mead, orange, ... Fun. 93+?
2009 Domaine Bernard Baudry Chinon La Croix Boissée

Silky, fragrant, and fruit-forward. Yes, it is a 2009, but that's not a bad thing.

2011 Franz Hirtzberger Riesling Smaragd Setzberg
Austria, Niederösterreich, Wachau
Floral, mineral, and stone and tropical fruit. Ripe fruit (like biting into a peach) balances the youthful acidity. Yum.
