Another Saturday evening with friends

Had some fun with black, double blind tasting glasses. Very entertaining and perhaps abit enlightening.

• 2009 Kilikanoon Riesling Mort's Block 88 Points

  Australia, South Australia, Mount Lofty Ranges, Watervale

  This is quite a nice Aussie Riesling. Bone dry and lighter bodied with green fruit, citrus, petrol and mineral notes and a bracing acidic core. It could have used abit more depth and complexity, but overall it was very enjoyable and paired beautifully with coconut curry shrimp.

• 2009 Château La Nerthe Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc 92 Points

  France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape

  This was the favorite wine of the evening and I'm unable to write any formal notes because by the time I got to it, it was almost all gone. It was quite delicious and well received by everyone.

• 2011 Domaine Moulin La Viguerie Tavel Les Falaises de Braise Rose 87 Points

  France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Tavel

  This a fairly deeply colored rosé with floral notes, strawberry and surprisingly, some hints of sassafras, which I wasn't looking for at all in this wine. This was more of a med bodied wine that was mostly lacking that crisp acidic finish I like in my rosé.

• 2009 Anne Amie Pinot Noir Cuvée A 86 Points

  USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley

  A fairly simple Willamette Valley PN with soft, rather uninteresting red Pinot fruit and some distinctive green, stemmy notes on the nose.

• 2009 Alain Hudelot-Noëllat Bourgogne 87 Points

  France, Burgundy, Bourgogne

  Pretty nose of red fruit with floral notes and some subtle earthy undertones. The palate is fairly simple and soft, but ok for what it is.
