Charlie Palmer Steak - Washington DC
Tasted Wednesday, January 30, 2013 by gblacave with 590 views
Maria Denton kindly invited me to participate in a Krug dinner hosted by LVMH. Charlie Palmer did a wonderful job - all of the dishes were quite good - and I don't need an excuse to drink Krug!
All in all, an excellent tasting, many thanks to Kevin for contributing the 96, which is a stunning wine.
2000 Krug Champagne Vintage Brut 93 Points
France, Champagne
Fully open and ready to drink. Showing fairly forward with ripe pear fruits, a touch of toasted brioche and a hint of red berry fruit. Complex and round. Classy, but slightly inelegant, palate. A touch heavy and lacking a touch of lift that would elevate this on the finish. Not quite outstanding.

NV Krug Champagne Brut Grande Cuvée 92 Points
France, Champagne
Disgorged 3rd quarter of 2011. Slightly drier than other recent releases. This still shows the house style, slightly oxidative with lots of tension. Nice fruit - lemon curd, pear - with a well-balanced finish. Vibrant acidity and packed with fruit. This shows all the raw material to continue to develop in bottle.

NV Krug Champagne Brut Rosé 93 Points

Bing cherry, sour red fruits, oxidative notes of toast and yeast. Lengthy finish. This is rich, but balanced and elegant. Vibrant and alive. I didn't catch the disgorgement date.

1996 Krug Champagne Vintage Brut 97 Points

Great complexity and depth, but there is an amazing amount of underlying tension and verve. Long finish, but again, this is just stacked up underneath. Delicious now, but just a baby. This has the underlying material and depth to continue to develop into something special.
