Introduction
A verical tasting of vintages 2011 through 2007. Older vintages stole the show. '07 and '08 have surprisingly developed the complexity and the aromatics I usually associate with Rieslings, showing the unexpected side of a mature Vermintino. What a wonderful surprise it turned out to be.
2011 Poggio al Tesoro Vermentino Bolgheri Solosole
Italy, Tuscany, Bolgheri
Succulent, ripe wine with ample fruit and a good mineral backbone. Notes of citrus and summer picnics. Pleasant now; capable of transforming into a more complex wine, with '07 being a great example.

A stunning riesling-like nose of petrol, freshly cut saplings, ripe grapefruit. Pleasant mineral fruit, though lacking a bit in structure vs '07.

2007 Poggio al Tesoro Vermentino Bolgheri Solosole

An intoxicating riesling nose. Beeswax, sweet fruit mixed with petroleum (in a good way), and more. Golden, with a hint of bitterness in the finish, with some salinity and complexity -- yet not quite mineral, like a true riesling. In a perfect drinking spot now. Should continue to improve. A total surprise and the wine of the night for me.
