Introduction

Braved the snow and slush and had a really nice dinner at Browntrout. Thanks to James, Tim and Keith for braving the weather to stop by for some vino!

  • NV Jean Bourdy Crémant du Jura 90 Points

    France, Jura, Crémant du Jura

    Another really nice Cremant from the Jura. Had a nice doughy aroma to it and compared to other Jura cremants, this seemed to be a big bigger and richer. Hard to shrug this off...especially at $19/bottle. Will need to pick up a case...at least.

  • 2002 Domaine des Baumard Savennières Clos du Papillon 92 Points

    France, Loire Valley, Anjou-Saumur, Savennières

    A bit more elegant than the Joly we drank along with this. Had a softer vanilla character with some dill and melon. The texture is just wonderful; silky, smooth with great cut and acidity. This will age for quite a while, but is already drinking in a great spot.

  • 2008 Domaine Leflaive Puligny-Montrachet 91 Points

    Impressive village wine. Nice flint and lemon on the nose, with some vanilla accents. Showing great balance with layers of flavor. A beauty.

  • 2006 Clos Rougeard (Foucault) Saumur-Champigny 92 Points

    France, Loire Valley, Anjou-Saumur, Saumur-Champigny

    Started off green and angular, but with some air this really took off. This is a rich and textured with crystalline red fruits. Great cut and acidity create a supremely balanced and elegant wine.

  • 2007 Nicolas Joly Clos de la Coulée de Serrant 91 Points

    One of the better Joly wines I've had. Great texture and acidity. Had this really nice orange marmalade tone to it with subtle grassy and vanilla undertones.

  • 1999 Domaine Roblet-Monnot Volnay 1er Cru Taillepieds Flawed

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru

    Thought this was an off bottle...or simply bad. Palate was thin and acidic. Maybe "hollow" is a better way to describe it. Thought it lacked a lot.

  • 2002 Domaine des Lambrays Clos des Lambrays 92 Points

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos des Lambrays Grand Cru

    A kaleidoscopic aroma of berries, dried florals, earth and spice. Palate is plush but edgy with great layers of flavor. Great bottle of wine.

  • 2003 Domaine des Lambrays Clos des Lambrays 91 Points

    This showed really well. I was expecting something more blowsy and less precise, but this was complex, earthy, and balanced. Lots of red berries and spices with a nice brambly underbelly to it. It's hard for me to move beyond the "2003 Burgundies suck" mindset, but wines like this push me into a more optimistic view.

    Seemed to be somewhat tight. Lots of cool red fruit, but everything seemed a bit hazy. Didn't have the precision that is so common with this producer.

  • 2008 Sanguis Endangered Species, acts 1-3 71 Points

    Not my style of wine. Lots of blueberry compote on the nose. The palate was spritzy and big.
