2001 Castelgiocondo (Marchesi de' Frescobaldi) Lamaione Toscana IGT 92 Points

Still deep ruby with garnet rim. Spicy plum and vanilla on nose. Gritty with firm tannins coating the mouth. Good acid. Needs more time - hopefully the fruit will last.

Bright red, sour cherry and blackcurrant, not very noticeable vanilla. Smooth and round, spicy, fine tannins, good length. Big - needs five years.

Amazing colour - purple with rim. Spicy blackcurrant on nose, smooth and fairly full-bodied. Coats the mouth. Some oak evident still - needs time. Quite refined in balance though - one to watch.

Big nose - full-on Brunello. Not so powerful on the palate but with nice firm tannins though. Give it some time and should improve.

Lot of sediment in my glass so was a little off-put. Sour cherries, lots of leather, fine tannins. Nice wine but some funky notes. Obviously. I got the dregs of this bottle so may be better if decanted properly.

Ruby with pale rim. Raspberries, cherries - not much tertiary character, no leather or other notes. Fine tannins with good length. Fairly simple at the moment - may improve.

Ruby. Cherries with a nice earthiness. Fine tannins with good mouth-feel. Plenty of body and feels balanced. Quite a way to go with this one, I suspect.

Fine ruby colour. Big nose - leather, dark cherry, hint of mushroom. Plenty of tannins but not aggressive. Med- acid. Tannins more evident on finish with some earthiness.

Bright ruby. Cherry and lots of mushroom on first bottle - swapped to another and that had a cleaner nose. Still straightforward cherry and vanilla. Good body and acidity, lasts well. Bit simple.

Complex nose - some funkiness and mushroom, almost a little off. But then in the mouth - boom! Great balance of tannins, acidity and leather, with a slight sweetness of fruits remaining on the finish. This would be good with a cigar.
