The nose is the usual ripe cherry and matchstick that makes these wines so attractive, but with a depth that heads into autumn leaf and dark berry territory. The palette is bold and full of ripe tannins with very concentrated dark cherry in the mid-palette. There is a nice, savoury finish with a hint of green minerality.

This wine shows much more perfume that the Meres with a delicate, sweeter berry that is nestled in its fair share of earthiness. The palette is stewed red fruit with a mineral twang and a dusty briar that leads into super concentrated dark fruits with a tight tannin finish. This one needs some time.

Of the 2010 Single vineyard Kooyong Pinot Noirs, this is definitely the best this year. I think the vineyard is starting to come into its own now, and while I've always had a soft spot for the Ferrous, it has been eclipsed in the previous two vintages by other single vineyard releases. Not this year.
This has the darkest berry profile of this vintage's wines and there are Asian spices galore to work with the ripe and intense fruit. The palette structure is quite mineral driven with tart tannin texture, which I think means that this guy is going places. I won't be touching my stock for at least 4 to 5 years and I can see this going well into the 2020s.
