Introduction

Another fun evening of burgundy and (?) musical education. A good range of character/ style across the wines and some interesting food, the duck burger being both a highlight (nice) and lowlight (very wine unfriendly spicing). A good evening, so thanks to all. Now to seek out the prince among musicians that I've been 'educated' about...

Flight 1 (1 Note)

  • NV Jacques Selosse Champagne Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs 91 Points

    France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru

November 06 disgorgement. Mid to full straw. Rich, slightly gingery nose. A touch ox, but not overly so. At the fresher end of the Selosse spectrum. Apple cut with something a little sweeter and also more savoury. Quite long. Very nice if this is your thing (it is). ****

Flight 2 (1 Note)

  • 2009 Domaine Leflaive Bourgogne Blanc 89 Points

    France, Burgundy, Bourgogne Blanc

Mid to pale straw. Showing quite classically, not as rich off the blocks as a bottle last week. Good length and reasonable line. Maybe just a little flab but very promising. Top ***

Flight 3 (4 Notes)

Flight 4 (2 Notes)

  • 2009 Domaine Ramonet Bourgogne 90 Points

    France, Burgundy, Bourgogne

Dusty red fruit on the nose. A touch creamy too. Quite smoky, dusty fruit on the palate. A lot leaner and flatter than the previous wines. More two dimensional. More authentic though. Fresh and engaging. A little quirky and none the worse for that. ***1/2

  • 2009 Domaine Michel Lafarge Bourgogne 90 Points

    France, Burgundy, Bourgogne

Redder fruited. A little lighter. More fragrant and less obvious than some of the previous wines. Nicely dusty. Fresher with some lift. Lovely. ***1/2

Flight 5 (1 Note)

  • 2011 Domaine Pouderoux Maury 90 Points

    France, Languedoc Roussillon, Roussillon, Maury

Very fresh and lifted. Crushed raspberry nose. Lots of pip. Similar on palate, fresh and quite light. A different style to Mas Amiel (my usual) but really quite lovely. ***1/2
